National Review Institute

SPRING 2021 BOOK CLUB

We are pleased to announce our next book club featuring George Orwell’s essential writings: 1984 (Secker & Warburg,1949), Animal Farm (Secker & Warburg,1945), and an essay by Orwell – “Politics and the English Language.”

Given today’s insidious cancel culture, it is no surprise that 1984 is once again a best-seller. The pressure to conform to progressive orthodoxies is very real for Americans all across the country. This illiberalism conjures up images of the Thought Police, Groupthink, Newspeak, and the ever-present telescreens enforcing compulsory behavior described in Orwell’s dystopia.

Join us each week for interactive Zoom conversations on Orwell’s writings led by NRI Senior Fellow Jay Nordlinger. Please note this book club is for NRI’s general members and 1955 Society members. Invitations are not transferable.

We hope you will consider making a tax-deductible donation to National Review Institute, the non-profit journalistic think tank that supports the NR mission, to join us for our next book club and our other virtual programming. If you have any questions or would like to register, please email events@nrinstitute.org.
