Kyle Smith grew up in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts and graduated from Yale College before serving as a lieutenant in the Third Infantry division in the Persian Gulf War. He began his career in journalism at the Associated Press in New York City before working as a writer and editor at People magazine and a columnist and film critic for the New York Post. He is also the author of the comic novels Love Monkey (William Morrow Paperbacks, 2005), which was adapted into a CBS television series, and A Christmas Caroline (William Morrow Paperbacks, 2006). He specializes in covering culture as National Review‘s critic-at-large and is also the theater critic for The New Criterion.
