Wash Times Neglects Climate Alarmism’s Deep Pockets

Stephen Dinan’s March 5th Washington Times article entitled “Climate scientists plot to fight back at skeptics” allows a climate alarmist  to assert that scientists “will never be able to compete with energy companies” when it comes to pushing their side of the debate.

The claim is false for several reasons:

  • Energy companies have funded research on both sides of this debate, but spent more funding those “alarmists” who support claims of anthropogenic (man-made) global warming (“AGW”).

Mandates Don’t Benefit Mandated

In her October 18th article entitled “Health bills target young-old cost gap”, Washington Times reporter Jennifer Haberkorn suggests that young adults “could have the highest costs to bear but the most to gain under the health care overhaul proposals in Congress.”

Beyond the questionable logic of suggesting that something purchased at a high (indeed “the highest”) price results in “a gain”, Ms. Haberkorn’s implication that reform proposals would benefit young adults in any important way fails to match the reality of either the leading House or Senate bill.

The bill will cause an “increase in revenues to carbon-free power sources like nuclear, and this is exactly what is supposed to happen,” said John Shelk, president of the Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA).

“The money isn’t really a ‘windfall profit,’ ” Mr. Shelk said. “Instead, it is

Washington Times Repeats 43’s 44% Myth

David Sands’ piece in March 3’s Washington Times entitled “Hispanics Wary of Future in GOP” has this nut graf:

Leading Hispanic Republican strategists say the natural attraction the party should enjoy with churchgoing, socially conservative Latino voters is being overwhelmed by a single issue: the party’s hard-line stance on illegal immigration.

There’s a lot to complain about in this story, from it’s being a glorified press release for an unbalanced panel at CPAC last week, to the lack of skeptical voices, other than one 14-word quote from Heather Mac Donald, an important cultural critic but hardly an electoral analyst.

But under the … Continue Reading
